Considerations For Preparing Digital Assets for Product Personalization
Digital assets are an important component of product customization. Following are three considerations when evaluating digital assets for personalization.
1. Asset Inventory
The first consideration for preparing digital assets for product personalization is making sure your company has assets. Seriously. When performing the inventory, consider where the product customization will occur. For example, if the product being customized is a sports jersey, will the customization occur on the front, on a sleeve, on the back? Different assets of the product from various angles may be required.
2. Evaluation
The second consideration is critical evaluation of the assets. One should look at image quality and image detail. Some questions to consider include:
- Do the photos have shadows?
- Are the images angled?
- Are the images on model which may be angled or show wrinkling?
Placing a flat logo on an angled image or item that is not flat may not provide an accurate virtual proof of the end product.
3. Consistency
The final consideration includes making sure all images look the same and tell the same story. It’s important to look at all of the images together, and verify that sizing (on screen or in image) and colors are consistent.
Upon verifying that images are consistent, ensure that the proper format or file type exists. Some common formats include:
- JPG
- PNG
- AI
- SVG
- EMB and DST (when using embroidery)
Preparing is key for success, and following these key considerations for product personalization will help create consistent assets that are on brand and consistent.
